Great Britain are FIM Team Long Track World Champions for the first time after beating holders Germany in a nail-biting finale in front of some 4000 spectators in Muhldorf on Sunday

Pre meeting favourites and 2014 Champions Germany saw their grasp on the trophy slip away as the British team raced to victory in the final heat to secure a one point advantage over the home team.

Andrew along with fellow team mates Glen Phillips, Richard Hall and reserve rider James Shane's went in to the final heat with just one point separating Britain, Germany, France and Finland

Knowing that one point could mean the difference between a historic Gold and Fourth place, the three British riders kept there cool to snatch a win over the Dutch securing Gold and bringing the Don Godden trophy home for the very first time.

Andrew said 'it's an absolutely thrilling moment for us and for the sport, going in to the final we knew that if we dropped just one point or if anyone had a breakdown it could have meant a three way run off for gold and possibly a non podium spot for us! I'm beyond happy with the performance of the team and my bikes and looking forward to defending the title next year!'

Appleton now turns his attentions to the FIM European Final where he will be looking to reclaim the title he won in 2010.
